I have gained wide-ranging experience through developing and running a crisis, counselling and advice centre for over 20 years. Since 1996 this work has been in partnership with Social Services.
As a psychotherapist I value an approach that is very human, non-clinical, creative and practical. I work with people from all walks of life - this includes working with people suffering with what many would consider more
extreme mental health problems. In addition, I have considerable experience working with children
facing emotional, social and behavioural difficulties. It is my experience that it is usually most helpful to understand a person's emotional distress in the context of his or her life and relationships rather than as a medical disorder that should be treated.
I am an existential-phenomenological psychotherapist and am a member of the Society for Existential Analysis. I am closely associated with The International Network Towards Alternatives & Recovery (INTAR) and I am also a member of the International Center for the Study of Psychiatry & Psychology (ICSPP). Aspects
of my training have been under a number of people who were close colleagues of R. D. Laing, in particular, Dr Stephen Tichtin and Dr Leon Redler who remains my professional consultant.
